Claude down: Why it says account temporarily unable to authenticate

Updated on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 11:40 a.m. ET —Anthropic reported that most of its services had been restored. The Anthropic status page stated that "All services have been operating normally" since 10:59 a.m. ET.

Anthropic's Claude is reportedly down on Tuesday morning.

More than 10,000 users began reporting issues shortly after 10 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector.

Elevated errors were confirmed on Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude's API, according to Anthropic's status page.

Users attempting to use the services "may see failed requests, errors loading or sending conversations, or be asked to sign in again," according to Anthropic. However, retrying may succeed, the company notes.
